Break Up 2 Make Up an original play will open Sept 7-9 at Cité des Arts

Break Up 2 Make Up is a highly anticipated stage play that gives a modern look into 
relationships with false hopes. The profound stage play, confronts real life situations 
showing the struggles of love and commitment in a young couples journey. 
Take an in-depth look into the perspective of men and women in the emotional up and 
down hilarious roller coaster ride on relationships. This powerful
play is written, directed and produced by Temetria Charles. The play
will debut September 7th through September 9th at Cite Des Arts located on
109 Vine Street, Downtown Lafayette.

Break Up 2 Make Up tells a story of the journey of Rita and Lamar, a young couple that
goes through different phases within their relationship only to realize they both want the
same ending results: TO BE HAPPY! Love is a two way street, however, before they
can reach their final destination of happiness, they must encounter a few detours

In his 1979 Pulitzer Prize-winning family drama, Buried Child, Sam Shepard takes a macabre look at one American Midwestern family with a very dark secret. When Vince brings his girlfriend, Shelly, home to meet his family, she is at first charmed by the "normal" looking farm house which she compares to a "Norman Rockwell cover or something"--that's before she actually meets his crazy family--his ranting, alcoholic grandparents (Dodge and Halie) and their two sons: Tilden, a hulking semi-idiot, and Bradley, who has lost one leg to a chain saw. Strangely, no one seems to remember Vince at first, and they treat him as an intruder. Eventually, however, they seem to accept him as a part of their violently dysfunctional family.

Gradually, the family's dark secret begins to come clear. 

"What's extraordinary about Buried Child is that, like Shepard's best plays and decidedly unlike most conventional family dramas, it acts on the audience the same way the tensions of the play act on the characters. Pandemonium Theater Group announces their Christmas play production of "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus" for Thursday, Sept. 6 from 6 pm to 8 pm and Saturday September 8 from 10 am to noon at the Crowley Art Gallery at 222 North Parkerson Avenue in downtown Crowley.

The Christmas play for 2012 will be “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus” based on the book by L. Frank Baum (that’s right the author of The Wizard of Oz). Have you ever wondered just where Santa Claus came from? Baum knew and lets us in on his secret: the story of Saint Nicholas as told to him by Necile, the nymph who found Claus and raised him as her own in the world of Knooks, Faeries, Ryls and, yes, even the dreaded Awgwas. “Beward of the Awgwas,” Necile warns Claus. “They hide under beds to frighten human children!” And so Claus decides he must leave the world of the Immortals and live among the humans, making toys to make children happy. He gets help from Jack Frost, who shows him the Frost Gale which allows Claus and his sleigh to fly, and from two runaway Knooks, Lem and Barlo, who want to hear the children laugh. This delightful tale answers once and for all how Santa Claus made the first toy, why he climbs down chimneys and, most of all, how he learned to laugh that great “Ho, ho, ho.” The cast calls for 9 men: Frank Baum (79 lines); Ak – master woodsman and ruler of the forest (155 lines); Will – king of the Knooks and Faeries (75 lines); Claus (312 lines); Jack Frost (53 lines); King Awgwa (68 lines); King Gnome (12 lines); Prince Flash – ruler of the birds (6 lines); and Bo – ruler of the seas (7 lines). And 8 women: Necile – wood Nymph and foster mother to Claus (166 lines); Queen – Ak’s wife (48 lines); Maid (15 lines); Queen Awgwa (32 lines); Water Sprite Queen – queen to Sprites and Ryls (5 lines); Queen Imp – queen to Imps and Nymphs (12 lines); and two Faeries (#1 13 lines and #2 has 3 lines). Finally 15 children both girls and boys to play: a Ryl (1 line); A Knook (1 line); A Nymph (1 line); Weekum – a curious human boy (31 lines); Mayrie – human girl(33 lines); 4 Awgwas (#1 - 13 lines; #2 11 lines; #3 &#4 1 line each); 2 reindeer(#1 31 lines and #2 32 lines); Barlo (elf) (20 lines) and Lem (23 lines) – helper Knooks to Clause; and 3 small children (2 lines each) to receive gifts. Extras welcome. Some characters only have one line whereas others have teens to thirties with only a few having over 75 and Claus with 312. Play to be performed December 14, 15, & 16 at the Grand Opera House. Cast members are responsible for their own costumes.

The Evangeline Players of St. Martinville is pleased to announce the first of its performances for the 2012-2013 season. Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park, directed by St. Martinville native, Steven "Smitty" Smith, will be performed at the Duchamp Opera House in St. Martinville and will run October  5th through October 14th. The cast includes Elizabeth Austin as Corie Bratter, Danny Ladmirault as Paul Bratter, Cindy Hebert as Ethel Banks, Paul David as Victor Velasco, Dustin Lafleur as the telephone repairman,Dr. Kenneth L. Fournet as the deliveryman, Lea Pratt as Corie Bratter understudy and Dustin Lafleur as Paul Bratter understudy.

This romantic comedy follows the lives of newlyweds, Paul and Corie Bratter who live in a New York City brownstone. Paul is a strait-laced attorney while Corie is a spontaneous free spirit! As their married lives begin,  the couple must deal with various obstacles including their eccentric neighbor, Victor Velasco, and Corie's well-meaning mother. Adjusting to married life isn't so easy as the newlyweds soon find out. Watching their ups and downs will be enjoyable for all who attend!!

The Eunice Playets still need to cast some roles for On Golden Pond. The roles of Chelsea and Bill need to be filled. These characters need to look like they're in their mid- to late-30's or very early 40's at most. They are only in two scenes so rehearsal demands will be minimal for the first few weeks. Rehearsals start August 20; production dates are between Sept. 19 and 29.

Theatre--Auditions (Musical Theatre)

Auditions for the Iberia Performing Arts League’s Musical Man of La Mancha will be held Saturday, September 8, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon and Sunday, September 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Essanee Theater, 126 Iberia St., New Iberia. The show will have approximately 30 characters, with 15 singing roles and 15 non-singing roles of various types including four dancers and
several non-speaking parts. The show will run March 7-24, 2013.

Man of La Mancha, 1966 Tony Award Winner as Best Musical, tells the story of Cervantes and his alter ego Don Quixote. Set in a fifteenth century Spanish prison, it is unique in that much of the cast remains on-stage for most of the running time of the show. The message of the musical, that we should strive to live in a world as it should be and not as it is, was meaningful in the turbulent 60’s and continues to be so today.

All those interested in auditioning for any available part will be asked to read a section of lines from the play, and to sing part of “The Impossible Dream” which is the signature song from the show. Those interested in auditioning for a specific part may additionally be asked to sing a section of a song for that particular character.

Cite Des Arts will be holding auditions for "Cabaret" by Joe Masteroff & John Kander, directed by Christy Leichty and assisted by Kyla Cormier.  Auditions will be held at Cité des Arts Saturday, August 11, 11:00-3:00pm. Please be prepared to read from the script, learn a short pi
ece of choreography to dance, and sing something. Actors may use prepared monologues if they have one, but it isn't required. Performances are November 2-4, 8-11, 15-17th. If you’re looking for a lighthearted romantic comedy about a mildly dysfunctional Jewish family, “Beau Jest,” is just the ticket.

The story, set in Chicago, takes place at kindergarten teacher Sarah Goldman’s apartment. She has what she thinks is a serious problem: Her boyfriend, Chris Cringle, is not Jewish, and her parents did not like him after meeting him only once, so Sarah tells her parents she broke up with Chris. Now her mom is constantly trying to set her up with random Jewish men, which is causing a bit of turmoil in her life. What’s a girl to do?  Sarah decides to hire a man named Bob Schroeder from “Heaven Sent Escort Service” to play the perfect boyfriend, Dr. David Steinberg, so her parents will get off her back.

The Eunice Players’ Theatre will hold auditions for the next play of the 43^rd season, “On Golden Pond” by Ernest Thompson, on Saturday, August 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and Wednesday, August 15, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the theatre at 121 S. Second St. in Eunice (between Nick’s on Second St. and Bertrand’s Office Supplies).  Director Vincent Barras needs 3 adult men, 2 adult women, and one young teenage male to fill the cast.  More people are needed to assist with set decoration, backstage duties, costuming, etc.  Rehearsals will be held throughout August and September with production scheduled for mid- to late-September.  Auditions are open to everyone who wants to get involved with their local community theatre.  FMI, or to schedule an audition time, call Vincent at             337-519-0865       or Jody L.
