Theatre--Auditions (Musical Theatre)

The Acadia Players present the timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein'sCINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. This Enchanted Edition is based on the 1997 teleplay.

The Acadia Players performances of Christmas Belles
December 1-3, 2011 7:00pm
December 4, 2011 2:00 pm
Historic Rice Theater
Crowley, LA

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students with I.D. and may be purchased at the Crowley Flower Shop at 1414 North Parkerson Ave. in Crowley (337)783-1512 or throughwww.acadiaplayers.com.

THE STORY: A church Christmas program spins hilariously out of control in this Southern farce about squabbling sisters, family secrets, a surly Santa, a vengeful sheep and a reluctant Elvis impersonator.

It's Christmas-time in the small town of Fayro, Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters—Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye—are not exactly in a festive mood. A cranky Frankie is weeks overdue with her second set of twins. Twink, recently jilted and bitter about it, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the town. And hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye is desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb's Christmas Program from spiraling into chaos. But things are not looking too promising: Miss Geneva, the ousted director of the previous twenty-seven productions, is ruthless in her attempts to take over the show. The celebrity guest Santa Claus—played by Frankie's long-suffering husband, Dub—is passing a kidney stone. One of the shepherds refuses to watch over his flock by night without pulling his little red wagon behind him. And the entire cast is dropping like flies due to food poisoning from the Band Boosters' Pancake Supper. And when Frankie lets slip a family secret that has been carefully guarded for decades, all hope for a successful Christmas program seems lost, even with an Elvis impersonator at the manger. But in true Futrelle fashion, the feuding sisters find a way to pull together in order to present a Christmas program the citizens of Fayro will never forget. Their hilarious holiday journey through a misadventure-filled Christmas Eve is guaranteed to bring joy to your world.

Theatre--Auditions

After the HUGE successes of Grease and A Christmas Story, the Acadia Players takes on one of the biggest endeavors in its history.

Noises Off is a hiliarious spoof of community theater life and the sometimes happenings before, during and after a performance of a play. In it's "adult humor" style way, the players of "Nothing On" must deal with all the aspects of Murphy's Law (what can go wrong usually will) as they seek to prepae (only hours before opening curtain) and then perform their rendition.

Unrequited love, mixed up emotions, jealousy (and let's not forget sardines) all combine to make a rollical time which will have adult audiences rolling in the aisles. Add to that a cactus and an axe, and audiences will be "splitting their sides" as they watch this play evolve at lightning speed.

The Acadia Players will be holding auditions for Noises Off from Monday, March 1st, through Wednesday, March 3rd at the Historic Rice Theater in downtown Crowley. Auditions will begin at 6 pm each evening.

They are looking for 5 males and 4 females (with two roles that could be played by either) 18 years of age or older. The play is not for the faint at heart, as characters will play "dual roles" - meaning that they will play the character they are cast as AND the character that their character plays in the spoof play.

Performances are scheduled for July 14th through the 17th at the Historic Rice Theater in Crowley, with a Media Night performance on July 9th.

Those interested may show up one of the nights of audition, or contact the Crowley Flower Shop at 783-1512 or Jimmy Broussard, President, at 783-5532.

Noises Off is written by Michael Frayn and is being produced by special permission of Samuel French, Inc.

Theatre--Performance

A Christmas Story, the underground classic holiday film, comes to life on stage thanks to the Acadia Players.
Humorist Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the Midwest of the 1940's follows 11-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas in Hohman, Indiana. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself, at Goldblatt's Department Store. The consistent response: "You'll shoot your eye out." All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family's temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys' experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin: Ralphie's father winning the lamp shaped like a woman's leg in fishnet stockings; Ralphie's fantasy scenarios and more.
The show runs November 26th and 27th at 7 p.m. and November 28th at 3 p.m. at the Grand Opera House in Crowley. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children and students. For more information or to purchase tickets online, visit www.acadiaplayers.com.

Theatre--Performance

The Acadia Players are presenting It's a Wonderful Life at the historic Rice Theatre beginning on Friday, December 4th at 7 pm.  The show runs through the weekend, with performances on Saturday, December 5th at 7 pm and Sunday, December 6th at 2 pm.  This family oriented, Christmas film from Frank Capra (made famous by Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed) comes to the Crowley stage to help kick-off Crowley's Christmas season.

Set in Bedford Falls in 1945 on Christmas Eve, It's a Wonderful Life chronicles the life (and non-life) of George Bailey, the mild-mannered starry eyed man who is shown just how important his life has been. Clarence Odbody, Angel Second Class, the heavenly being sent down to earth to help George, pushes and prods to get George to the realization of how his life has touched so many. Clarence's purposes are not totally angelic, however, for he must get George to this realization in order to garnish his own wings and move to a "True Angel" instead of being "Angel, Second Class".

A flurry of characters parade in and out to assist in proving to George that he is important and that every person's life touches a multitude of others.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (including college students with ID).  Tickets can be found at the Crowley Flower Shop or online.

The Acadia Players are proud to announce their winter 2009 production of It’s A Wonderful Life.  The family-favorite Jimmy Stewart movie known for the famous line “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings” is the basis for the two act play written by James W. It’s A Wonderful Life not only celebrates the season, it also celebrates the American philosophy of life: that hard work a, fair play. Theatre--Performances

The Acadia Players are presenting Steel Magnolias starting tonight and running through the weekend.

The action is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a "good ole boy." Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic buy humorously revealing verbal collision, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength -and love- which gives the play, an its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

Shows are at the Crowley Rice Theatre. The Friday and Saturday night performances will begin at 7 pm and the Sunday show is a matinee starting at 2 pm. Tickets are available at the Crowley Flower Shop, at the door or online from the website.
