Theatre--Performance (Musical Theatre)

In a far-off kingdom, four fairy tales had no knowledge of the othersexistence.  Into the Woods, the musical by Stephen Sondheim, is a retelling of the world's most recognizable fairy tales, where characters meet and find out what REALLY happens when their wishes come true and what lurks on the other side of "Happily Ever After".

Welcome to the Opelousas Little Theatre and this summer's production of Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim.  Join us in the dark and wooded realm to follow the stories of Little Red Ridinghood, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk)as they meet and quest into the woods in search of their hearts deepest wishes.  Little do they know, their haphazard adventures are all a part of one witch's magical influential scheme.  Set to the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim, James Lapine's cleverly woven story is sure to have you humming and laughing all the way home.

Performances will be held in downtown Opelousas at the newly renovated Delta Grand across from the Court House Square.

Dates/times:
July 8th through the 10th, 15th through 17th, and 22th through the 24th at 7 pm (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays)

Theatre--Workshop

Caroline McGee is returning to Lafayette to offer another workshop in The Method to actors in the Lafayette area.

This is a basic workshop for all actors (ages 15 and adults), beginning to experienced professionals. You will be working on either one scene or one monologue from Tennessee Williams or Chekhov. The final day of the workshop will be open to (your) guests to watch the scenes/monologues as a work in progress.

Caroline´s version of The Method is a very effective and energetic way to help you deepen your realistic acting (and to put away your inner judge) visibly!  She helps you to approach the Sensory Work, a hallmark of the legendary Method technique, in a delicate and very clear way, after giving you very simple and basic tools to relax and make your body, breath and mind ready and balanced. She helps you in the most personal way to create character, avoiding cliche and stereotype, towards your own unique truth.

Due to the individualized nature of the training, spaces are limited, so register now for an early discount. The workshop is five days/3 hours per day. Dates/times TBA, the last 2 weeks of July 2010. For more info and an application: mcgeec50@yahoo.com

Caroline McGee is an actress, producer and theater educator with expertise in actor training and currently serves as Director for the Moscow Art Actor Training/NewGenerussian Company and also served as Director/Producer of The Lee Strasberg Theatre & FilmInstitute Professional Program and the Strasberg Studio/NYU Tisch School of the Arts Undergraduate Drama Program. IPAL announces that tryouts for The Lion in Winter by James Goldman will be held at IPAL's Essanee Theater at 6PM on Sunday July 18th and Tuesday July 20th 2010.   The play is IPAL’s fall production and will open on Friday, October 15, 2010 and will run for three weekend, closing with the Sunday Matinee on October 31st.

The play is a comedic drama with adult themes, and requires a dedicated and serious cast. It is a “period piece” set in the year 1183, so there will be care in selecting costumes.

The cast consists of 5 men and 2 women, briefly described as follows:
Henry II, King of England – age 50 plus
Eleanor of Aquitaine, Henry’s wife – age 60 plus
Richard Lionheart, their oldest son – age 26
Geoffrey, their middle son – age 24
John, their youngest son – age 16
Alais Capet, a French Princess – age 23
Philip Capet, King of France – age 17

The ages shown are those set forth in the script and are not set in stone. This is an ensemble cast and members will be selected with regard to their relation to each other.

As in all IPAL production, these auditions are completely open and do not require any special preparation. Questions can be directed to the director (Mac Stearns) by calling the theater at (337) 364-6114 and leaving word.

Theatre--Performance (Musical Theatre)

Chez Gisele, a drag musical comedy noire, completed a highly successful first week of the play's three week run at Cite Des Arts theater.  Amazingly, Chez Gisele sold out 2 performances the first week.   “We had many returning patrons the first week”, stated Dennis Ward, the playwright. “What a compliment!”

Stephanie Broussard's stunning performance as “Gigi” has been evoking cherished poignant memories for family and dear friends of the late Gisele Carriton.  The drag queens are highly entertaining creating a festive, sometimes wacky, atmosphere of 1970s song and dance and Ms. Patricia Craven's stellar performance as Miss Hannah(the hoodoo woman, voyante) is not to be missed.

Buckle your seat belts as you enter the hilarious, campy, roller coaster world of Chez Gisele.  Reserve tickets to one of the hottest shows in town quickly by calling Cite Des Arts (337-291-1122) or buy in advance online through Paypal at  citedesarts.org.  Tickets are still available for June 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th, 11th and 12th performances.
