Omni Artiste opens Indigo Blues: A Love Song this weekend at Cite Des ArtsOmni Artisté is proud to bring you the work of local native Judi Ann Mason, opening February 19th at 7:30.   Judi Ann Mason, who died in 2009, was a strong player in the writing industry, with such impressive credits as Good Times, Sister Act II, Livin' Fat, I'll Fly Away, and The Jeffersons. Passion and anger run deep in Indigo Blues: A Love Song, a play and a love story set in the deep South about two sisters who love the same man, that runs the weekend of February 19th through the 21st and the next.

WHAT:   Omni Artisté presents Indigo Blues: A Love Song
WHEN:   Friday and Saturdays February 19th and 20th, 26th and 27th at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees February 21st, and 28th at 3:00 pm.

COST:    $15 general admission without reservation, $10 with a reservation and for students/senior citizens.

Theatre--Weekend Roundup

Today (Saturday, January 9th) is a busy one for local theatre.  Omni Artiste is holding auditions for its upcoming production of Indigo Blues at Cite Des Arts and Firelight Enterprises is holding auditions for its upcoming musical production of Oliver! at its theatre.  Two companies are continuing their runs of newly opened shows, and the word of mouth about the shows is that both are excellent.  Unwrap Your Candy (Ovation TheatreWorks at The Center for Acadiana Film and Media) and Life is a Dream (Acting Unlimited, Inc. at Cite Des Arts) both begin at 7:30 pm.  There is also a special one time performance of Lovesick Blues: An Evening with Hank Williams, Jr. at the historic Liberty Theatre in Eunice.

Even though the weather is cold, support local theatre!  Audition for or go to a show!

Theatre--Performance

Omni Artiste Productions is currently in rehearsal for Indigo Blues:  A Love Song.  The show opens Friday, December 4th at 7:30 pm.   Shows will run Fridays (7:30 pm), Saturdays (7:30 pm) and Sundays (3 pm) from December 4th through the 13th.

The show will be performed at Cite Des Arts in downtown Lafayette.  Admission is $10 in advance and for seniors, students and children.  Tickets will be $15 at the door.

Theatre--Auditions

Omni Artiste' Productions, Inc., as part of their 2009-2010 Tribute Season (Judi Ann Mason) will hold auditions for Indigo Blues: A Love Song, a story set deep in the South about two women who love the same man.  The cast calls for 3 people:
2 African American women ages 40-60
1 African American man aged 35-45

Auditions will be held on Saturday, October 24th (2-4 pm), Sunday, October 25th (4-6 pm) and Monday, October 26th (6-8 pm) at Cite Des Arts in downtown Lafayette.

Theatre--Performance

Dr. Alex Marshall and Omni Artiste kick off their tribute season to Louisiana playwright, Judi Ann Mason* this Friday, October 2nd at 7:30pm with their production of Livin’ Fat. A comedy in two acts, the play won Ms. Mason the Norman Lear Award for Comedy Writing presented by the Kennedy Center. The story focuses on the Cooper family, who are black, poor and happy. Their scruples are tested however, when son, David Lee, a recent college graduate finds $50,000 in the street. The bank he is working at is robbed and in haste the robbers drop the bundle of money which David Lee discovers. A decision has to be made, do they keep the money or give it back - but the Lord works in mysterious ways.


WHEN: October 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th at 7:30pm and October 4th and 11th at 3:00pm
WHERE: Cité des Arts, 109 Vine St., downtown Lafayette between Jefferson St. and Third St.
COST: $15.00 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, students and those with advance reservations.

*Judi Ann Mason, a Shreveport native and former student of Dr. Alex Marshall, passed away this July at the age of 55. She was a very successful playwright, screenwriter and television producer winning numerous awards for her plays including the Norman Lear Award for Comedy Writing through the Kennedy Center for Livin’ Fat and the Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award for A Star Ain't Nothing But a Hole In Heaven. She produced scripts for movies and television shows including Good Times, A Different World, Beverly Hills 90210, I’ll Fly Away and Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit.

Theatre--Performance

Omni Artiste Productions, Inc opens its next production, Fabulation or, The Re-Education of Undine by Lynn Nottage, at Cite Des Arts on Friday, June 12th at 7:30 pm at Cite Des Arts in Lafayette.

Ths show is a social satire about an ambitious and haughty African-American woman, whose husband suddenly disappears after embezzling all of her money. Pregnant and on the brink of social and financial ruin, Undine retreats to her childhoold home in the projects.

The show will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 12th until June 21st. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 pm and Sunday shows will start at 3:00 pm.

Theatre--Auditions (Omni Artiste)

Omni Artiste Productions, Inc will hold auditions for its next production, Fabulation or, The Re-Education of Undine by Lynn Nottage, at Cite Des Arts on Saturday, April 18th (from 2-4 pm), Sunday, April 19th (4-6 pm) and Monday, April 20th (6-8 pm).
