Theatre--Performance

Dr. Alex Marshall and Omni Artiste kick off their tribute season to Louisiana playwright, Judi Ann Mason* this Friday, October 2nd at 7:30pm with their production of Livin’ Fat. A comedy in two acts, the play won Ms. Mason the Norman Lear Award for Comedy Writing presented by the Kennedy Center. The story focuses on the Cooper family, who are black, poor and happy. Their scruples are tested however, when son, David Lee, a recent college graduate finds $50,000 in the street. The bank he is working at is robbed and in haste the robbers drop the bundle of money which David Lee discovers. A decision has to be made, do they keep the money or give it back - but the Lord works in mysterious ways.


WHEN: October 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th at 7:30pm and October 4th and 11th at 3:00pm
WHERE: Cité des Arts, 109 Vine St., downtown Lafayette between Jefferson St. and Third St.
COST: $15.00 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, students and those with advance reservations.

*Judi Ann Mason, a Shreveport native and former student of Dr. Alex Marshall, passed away this July at the age of 55. She was a very successful playwright, screenwriter and television producer winning numerous awards for her plays including the Norman Lear Award for Comedy Writing through the Kennedy Center for Livin’ Fat and the Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award for A Star Ain't Nothing But a Hole In Heaven. She produced scripts for movies and television shows including Good Times, A Different World, Beverly Hills 90210, I’ll Fly Away and Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit.
