Bat Boy: The Musical is the Lucille Lortel- and Outer Critics Circle Award-winning re-imagining of the story of the eponymous Weekly World News star. This high-energy, emotionally complex show brings to life the story of the Bat Boy, dragged out of his cave and taught by a veterinarian's family how to act like a human. When he innocently attempts to fit in with human society in the economically crippled town of Hope Falls, the desperate people turn on him. This darkly comic and hysterically tragic musical examines what it is to be human, what it is to be civilized, and how the past never leaves us, while never ceasing to amuse, entertain, and touch its audience.

The Acting Unlimited, Inc. production of Bat Boy opens on Thursday, July 29th, at Cite Des Arts and runs every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night through August 14th. Curtain is at 7:30 every night. Tickets are $15, $12 for students with ID.

There will be two special performances. On Friday, July 30th, there will be a "Pay-What-You-Can" night, and on Friday, August 6th, all proceeds from the door will benefit a to-be-announced charity working on Gulf recovery efforts.

Space is limited at Cite des Arts, and therefore so are tickets. Tickets are available at online at citedesarts.org, or reservations can be made by calling Cite at (337) 291-1122.

Due to mature subject matter, this production is recommended for a 13+ audience.

Theatre--Auditions

Auditions are being held for the Cité des Arts production of We All Dowritten and directed by Cite's very own program director, Jarin Schexnider. We All Do is a microscopic and experimental look at the world we exist in, taking non-human creatures/items and exploring what happens if they are given human emotions: Does a trashcan love his trash? Are Hybrid cars embarrassed about being Hybrids? Does the flower hate the bee that plays the entire field of flowers? If these questions intrigue you, regardless of acting experience, then this is the project for you.

Looking to cast 6 ensemble roles—3 males, 3 females. No age requirements.  Each actor will play multiple parts. Movement experience (or willingness) is  a plus. The play will run August 20th-21st, 27th-28th at 7:30pm.

Auditions will be held Saturday July, 17th starting at 2:00pm and Sunday July 18th starting at 4:00pm. If interested, please contact Cité des Arts at (337) 291-1122.

Theatre--Performance

The Summer Youth Shakespeare Ensemble—an Acting Up (in Acadiana)
program—presents William Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen Of Verona. Over 30
children ages ten through senior in high school take on the roles. Two
Gentlemen is thought to be Shakespeare’s first play, and he clearly
experiments with devices that appear in later plays. Fickle young love
drives the action, and allows a very contemporary interpretation of the
play. Think reality TV.
Two Gentlemen Of Verona is the culmination of the Ensemble’s 14-day
intensive performing arts camp, where students study all aspects of the
performing arts: music, dance, design, acting, and more. The camp is
equivalent to a language immersion program, allowing the young actors to
perform a full Shakespearean play just eleven days after they are cast.

Staff for the program and the production include: Hector LaSala, set design
and instructor; Lindsay Ogle, choreographer and dance instructor; George
Saucier, composer and music instructor; Chad Trahan, costume design and
instructor, and Amy Waguespack, director. Other instructors and interns
include Hannah Briggs, Ricky Briggs, Harmony Decker, Kara Guarisco, Joseph
Lymous and Colin Miller.

Performances of Two Gentlemen of Verona take place at the Acadiana Center for the Arts on July 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th at 7:30 p, and July 18th and 25th at 2 PM.
Tickets are available beginning Wednesday July 7th at at the AcA ( which is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 AM to 5 PM). Pre-sale tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students through high school. All tickets the day of performance are $10.

For more information, call (337) 739-5598 or (337) 739-4273.
